What is even possible between now and NEOCON? InSpec Furniture planned to debut the line for NEOCON 2022, the first heavily attended Commercial Interior Design Conference since the pandemic began. When lease negotiations extended until 8 weeks before the conference, a new design challenge emerged.
8 weeks from kickoff to show off.
What sets the InSpec line apart from the many competing furniture companies? How could the showroom experience amplify the InSpec differentiators? What could actually be designed and built in 8 weeks?
Early in the design process the client and design team identified the extra wide sidewalk and vehicular traffic as opportunities to increase exposure to InSpec. The idea of elevating the furniture, or at least a reflection of the furniture became the starting point.
In most showrooms, we observe furniture from the same angle, a standing position.

the power of reflection
Spatial perception is not only doubled physically by reflection, but also deepened cognitively by alternate angles of view. Our brains are wired to comprehend objects right-side-up but reflections challenge that wiring leaving us to discover something different. In the famous image to the left, the sky frames the view top and bottom as the horizon appears to shift beneath the man. The precise moment before he touches his own reflection makes the photograph scintillating.
Reflection for the InSpec showroom makes furniture visible from the exterior that would not be otherwise. More importantly it affords alternate perspectives of each piece it reflects. You might even catch yourself seated and better imagine purchasing InSpec.
Motion is picked up in the peripheral vision of the human eye. These reflections use this behavior to attract attention to the furniture.
