This bold project uniquely feathers an historic main street with modern luxury via a new hotel featuring 300 4-star guest rooms and suites, a convention center and fine dining. the design simultaneously holds the street edge while creating a dramatic entry plaza. despite the mass of the project, a pedestrian scale is maintained.

the city of cripple creek has a preservation ordinance | design guidelines on Bennett Avenue that require the Victorian Architecture be maintained even for new construction. filled with spectacular detail and human scaled facades, preserving the character of the town while embracing modern luxury, and a vary large project, was a challenge.

the design maintains the scale of Bennett Avenue architecture by wrapping “new historic victorian” in and around the plaza. The north edge of the plaza a delicate, modern, metal and glass volume gracefully slides east and west reflecting the dramatic sky and light of colordao.

the new historic victorian architecture was created in a very modern fashion. every existing facade, conice, and fenestration along bennett was “sampled” and input into software. the pieces were then re-assembled autonomously into new combinations that the design team would select for improvement. the end result was a new architecture crafted from the existing, a uniquely cripple creek victorian.
